Where you live in California should not determine your access to thoughtful, personalized care.

Maybe your symptoms don’t fit nicely into one category. Your digestion has changed. Your periods have become unpredictable. You are gaining weight despite doing the same things that used to work. Your energy is lower, your sleep is disrupted, and your laboratory results have not fully explained why you feel so different. A telemedicine appointment gives us time to look at the whole picture.

I work with patients throughout California using HIPPA secure video visits, individualized laboratory testing and realistic treatment plans designed around their health history, symptoms and goals.

Whether you live in San Francisco, Oakland, Alameda, Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Diego or elsewhere in California, you can receive personalized naturopathic and functional medicine care without traveling to the East Bay.

Areas I commonly support through telemedicine

  • Perimenopause and menopause

Support for cycle changes, hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disruption, anxiety, brain fog, weight changes, vaginal symptoms, low libido and other concerns that may emerge during the menopause transition.

Treatment may include nutrition and lifestyle support, botanical medicine, targeted supplements and menopausal hormone therapy when clinically appropriate.

  • Gut and digestive health

Evaluation and support for bloating, constipation, loose stools, reflux, food reactions, abdominal discomfort, IBS-type symptoms, SIBO, dysbiosis and disorders of gut-brain interaction.

The goal is not simply to remove more foods. We look at your symptom pattern, previous testing, treatment history, digestion, motility, nervous-system regulation and other factors that may be keeping symptoms going.

  • Metabolic health and insulin resistance

Support for insulin resistance, prediabetes, cholesterol changes, blood-sugar fluctuations, weight changes, fatty liver risk and the metabolic changes that can become more noticeable during midlife.

Your plan may consider nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, medications, supplements and laboratory markers that provide a more complete picture than a single glucose result.

  • Chronic Fatigue, stress and disrupted sleep

Fatigue is not always caused by one deficiency or one hormone. We may consider nutrient status, thyroid function, blood-sugar regulation, iron and B12 markers, sleep quality, chronic stress, digestive health, medications and hormonal changes when deciding what deserves further evaluation.

What a virtual appointment looks like

1. We begin with your full story

Your initial 75-minute appointment gives us time to discuss your symptoms, medical history, medications, supplements, previous testing, daily routines and the changes you have noticed over time.

You do not need to organize everything perfectly before the visit. Part of my job is helping you make sense of the pattern!

2. We decide which information would actually be useful

Laboratory testing is selected based on your history and symptoms rather than automatically ordering the largest available panel. Depending on your needs, testing may include conventional blood work or specialized hormone, metabolic, nutrient or digestive testing. Many test kits can be shipped to your home, while blood tests can generally be completed at a laboratory near you.

The purpose of testing is to answer a meaningful clinical question and help guide the next decision.

3. You receive a personalized plan

Your care plan may include:

  • Therapeutic nutrition

  • Lifestyle and exercise guidance

  • Sleep support

  • Botanical medicine

  • Targeted supplements

  • Menopausal hormone therapy when appropriate

  • Strategies to support digestion and gut-brain regulation

  • Coordination with your primary-care clinician, OB-GYN, gastroenterologist or another specialist

  • Follow-up testing when it would change the plan

Recommendations are prioritized so you understand what to begin with, why it matters and how we will evaluate whether it is helping.

4. We follow the response over time

Follow-up visits allow us to review laboratory results, assess what has changed and adjust your plan. Your care should evolve as your symptoms, goals and life circumstances change!

Is telemedicine a good fit for you?

Virtual care may be a good fit if you:

  • Live in California and want access to naturopathic and functional medicine care

  • Are navigating perimenopause or menopause

  • Have digestive symptoms that have continued despite previous treatment

  • Want a more complete evaluation of metabolic health or insulin resistance

  • Have several overlapping concerns that are difficult to address in a short appointment

  • Want a plan that integrates nutrition, lifestyle, supplements, botanical medicine and conventional treatment when appropriate

  • Prefer video appointments because of your location, schedule, or responsibilities

  • Want the option to combine virtual care with occasional in-person visits in Berkeley

Telemedicine does not replace emergency care, an in-person physical examination or an established primary-care relationship. If your symptoms require urgent evaluation, imaging, a procedure or a hands-on examination, I will help you understand the appropriate next step.

Frequently asked questions

Who can schedule a telemedicine appointment?

Telemedicine appointments are available to California residents. You will be asked to confirm your location at the time of your appointment.

If you are outside California, you may still use the educational resources available on this website, but individualized medical care is limited by state licensing requirements.

Can laboratory testing be ordered virtually?

Yes. Many conventional blood tests can be completed at a laboratory near you, and certain specialty test kits can be shipped directly to your home.

I will explain what each recommended test is intended to evaluate, whether a more accessible alternative is available and the anticipated cost before you decide how to proceed.

Can menopausal hormone therapy be managed through telemedicine?

In many cases, menopausal hormone therapy can be discussed, prescribed and monitored through telemedicine when it is clinically appropriate.

The process includes reviewing your symptoms, medical history, risk factors, current medications, relevant screening and previous laboratory results. Some situations may require an in-person examination or coordination with an OB-GYN or primary-care clinician.

Can you help with SIBO or chronic digestive symptoms online?

Yes! Much of the evaluation of chronic digestive symptoms involves a detailed history, review of previous testing, laboratory coordination and assessment of how symptoms respond over time.

If your symptoms suggest that you need imaging, endoscopy, an in-person examination or urgent conventional evaluation, I will recommend that level of care.

Do you accept insurance?

Dr.Nykin does not bill insurance directly and is not contracted with any insurance providers.

How much are appointments?

  • Initial 75-minute appointment: $325

  • First follow-up appointment (45 min): $215

  • Thirty-minute follow-up appointment: $145

Laboratory testing and supplements are separate. Recommendations are made with your budget in mind, and all costs are discussed before testing is ordered.

Do I need to stop seeing my primary-care doctor or specialist?

Absolutely not. Naturopathic and functional medicine care can complement the care you already receive!

Depending on your needs, I often recommend continuing with or consulting your primary-care clinician, OB-GYN, gastroenterologist, endocrinologist, therapist or another specialist.
